LE MONDE COMME UNE LETTRE À LA POSTE

      Cette 6ème exposition d'art postal qu'organise La Maison du Grand Nord sur le thème du Monde ! réunit deux cent quarante-trois participants de trente-cinq pays. Dire que le monde est un thème de prédilection de l'art postal est un pléonasme : il n'est pas une exposition d'art postal où le monde ne soit présent en filigrane, et s'il est vrai que le monde a perdu sa vastitude avec les moyens de communication, en revanche c'est avec l'art postal qu'il redevient cette cité d'antan où chacun a sa place. Dans le fond la grande, la seule, différence entre l'art postal et l'Art, ce n'est pas une question d'esthétique, pas une question d'envois postaux, pas même une question d'indifférence plus ou moins radicale au marché de l'Art (l'argent pervertit tellement tout !), c'est une question de monde, non pas de monde réduit à la hideuse abstraction que l'on sait par les suppôts de la valeur marchande, mais de monde essentiel qui fait qu'il n'est de village qui ne soit un monde, et pas de vision de ce village qui ne soit du monde : le monde est une vision que les artistes postaux voient, avec les poètes, les enfants, et aussi les animaux, les plantes et la nature entière. Je connais nombre d'artistes postaux qui figurent dans la liste ci-dessous, je connais leur nom, et leurs créations me sont familières. Cette exposition est doublement leur œuvre et l'hommage qu'en rassemblant ces créations je tiens à leur rendre céans, leur talent est grand. À tous, merci.

THE WORLD LIKE A LETTER IN A PILLAR-BOX     

     This 6th mail-art exhibition organized by La Maison du Grand Nord on the theme The World ! is gathering two hundred and forty-three participants from thirty-five countries. To say that the world is a favourite theme in mail-art is a pleonasm : there is no mail-art exhibition without the world being present between the lines, and if it is true that the world has lost its vastitude with all the means of communication, on the other hand it is with mail-art that it grows again to that city of old in which each one can find his own place. Fundamentally, the only difference between mail-art and Art is not a matter of aesthetics, not a matter of postal mails, not even a matter of a more or less radical indifference among the business of Art (money corrupts everything in such a manner !), it is a matter of world, — not a world reduced by the fiends of the market value to the hideous abstraction that we know, — but an essential world that implicates that there is no village that is not a world in itself, and no vision of that village that is not part of the world : the world is a vision that postal mail-artists see together with the poets, the children, and also with the animals, the plants, the whole nature. I know lots of postal mail-artists that appear in the list below, I know their names and their creations are familiar to me. This exhibition is doubly their work and the tribute I want to pay here to them. Their talent is great. To all of them, thank you.
